Knowing the size of your parts at the outset allows you to properly size the tank for the job.

For example, if you are looking to handle a few small, high-precision parts, then a smaller tank will usually do. On the other hand, if you deal with a large volume of parts or larger-sized parts, then the tank is going to need to be larger. Before making any other decisions, you must choose the right tank size.

What Products Are You Cleaning?

In addition to understanding the types and sizes of parts that you need cleaned, you also need to understand what contaminants need to be removed, which will directly affect how you design your ultrasonic cleaning system.

The type of contaminants that you are cleaning will have a strong impact on transducer placement. For example, with oil contamination the transducers need to be mounted on the bottom so that the contaminant will float to the top and leave the bottom relatively uncoated.

Immersibles, on the other hand, are transducers that can be mounted slightly above the bottom of the tank so that heavy contaminants like soil can be cleaned without the risk of muffling.

What is Your Power Source?

Ultrasonic cleaning systems usually come in two types of power: 120 VAC or 240 VAC single phase. For other power sources, you may need to do some modification like a step-down transformer or custom building your system to only use two phases of a three-phase 240 VAC system. Some manufacturers offer ultrasonic generators which a universal input that allows reliable operation from 100 – 240 VAC.

The Basket

Since the parts you are cleaning can’t sit directly on the bottom of the tank, you will need the right basket for your cleaning needs. For most applications, an immersion basket that has a 1 inch by 1 inch mesh will be enough. If you are cleaning smaller parts, however, you may need a tighter mesh.

Basket lining can also be customized. Sometimes metal on metal will cause scratching, which means that your basket will need some sort of coating to prevent damage.

Other Functions

If your cleaning system needs to come with special functions, there are a variety of options to choose from, including:

Primary and secondary filters

Special control systems

Automation and automatic systems

Portability or storage

Almost any automation or special system that you can imagine can potentially be added to your ultrasonic cleaning system.

Let Omegasonics Help You Pick the Right Ultrasonic Cleaning System

Looking for the right cleaning system? Take a look at the wide range of ultrasonic cleaning systems that Omegasonics has to offer.
